Causative Agent : Flavobacterium branchiophilum, Cytophaga spp., Flexibacter spp

Diagnostic Method : Wet-mount examination of the gills

Symptoms

  • Gasping for air
  • Gills look discoloured with trapped materials
  • Increased mucous secretion by the gills
  • Gills may be swollen
  • Fish remain near the water surface and often line up against the water inlet
  • Diseased fish gather near the screen or outlet of the pond
  • White to gray spots on the gills
  • Lethargic
  • Secondary fungal infection

Host (Common sp.)

  • Fighterfish
  • Gold fish
  • Gourami fish
  • Cichlids
  • Koi carp
  • Livebearer fish

Treatment Method

  • Chloramine-T for 60 minutes at 8 ppm
  • Potassium permanganate 100mg/l for 30 second.
