Causative Agent : Gyrodactylus sp

Diagnostic Method : Wet mounts of skin scrapes or gill tissues

Symptoms

  • Erratic swimming
  • Clamped fins
  • Excess mucous production
  • Respiratory stress ,rapid breathing
  • Jumping out of water
  • Destroy the skin, gills with clumps of white masses
  • Pale color gills
  • Hemorrhagic areas on the skin

  • Tetras
  • Goldfish
  • Gourami
  • Cichlids
  • Barbs
  • Livebearer
  • Fighterfish
  • Koicarps

Treatment Method

  • Potassium Permanganate concentration of 2 mg/L as a long-term bath (minimum 4 hr) or short-term bath at concentrations of 10 mg/L for 30 minutes
  • Formalin: 250-330mg/1 liter for 1-30 miutes by bath method
  • Sodium Chloride: 2.5% for 1 hour by bath
  • Trichlorfon (0.25-3.0 mg/1 liter water for 3 days)
